Mitch Johnson

Mitch Johnson trained as a sound engineer in Soho, dubbing TV commercials. He then became a DJ in Virgin's Megastore and Capital Radio - warming up for Chris Tarrant and making tea for Kenny Everett and Alan "Fluff" Freeman.

After a spell at Sky TV and hosting a pop show on the World Service, Mitch was inspired by listeners' letters to visit some of those places to which he was broadcasting, and so began a four year long odyssey around the world.

After climbing mountains in Nepal, being robbed in India, shot at in Manila and crashing a brand new Landcruiser into a cow in the Australian outback, Mitch ended up penniless in Hong Kong - but managed to swing a job with BFBS for the fun-filled last days of the Empire.  After trebling the audience figures and appearing on practically every TV advert in the colony, Mitch was lured back to Britain for the launch of the new Virgin Radio.

Mitch stayed with Richard Branson's station for many happy years, worked a bit at Radio 1 and then moved into tellyland - becoming the secret voice-man of Live And Kicking, Record Breakers, The Lottery, Children in Need, Miss World, Friends like These, Comic Relief, Tonight's The Night, and even Live 8 where The Independent described him as the Voice Of God...Cool eh?

He was living in France restoring an old farmhouse, but - seeking more showbiz adventures - he parked his  campervan outside The Coast 106 and slept there for a few days until he was eventually offered a show.

Alfie the dog approved of the warm studio and free biscuits...and here they are!

Lets Rock...
