Southampton bus users face changes

First Bus launches new timetable.

Some Hampshire bus users could find their service at different times or routes from this morning.

First Buses has changed parts of the Southampton network, following suggestions from passengers.

The company says it's also reviewed its timetable after discussions with Southampton City Council, reflecting recent changes in demand for certain routes.

A summary of changes by route from the company is below:

Service 1 - no change.

Service 3 - the timetable will be revised to improve punctuality, as a result of the revisions to journey times and customer feedback this service will no longer run via West Quay, instead arriving in the city centre by Above Bar.

Service 4 - following a review of commercial services some early morning and evening journeys are withdrawn whilst the Saturday service reduces to hourly due to low demand. On Sunday the route will now terminate at Millbrook Tesco instead of Millbrook roundabout.

Service 5 - following a review of commercial services some early morning and evening journeys are withdrawn whilst the Saturday service reduces to hourly due to low demand.

Service 7/7A - no change.

Service 8/8A/8E - minor changes to the Saturday evening timetable.

Service 9/9A - certain evening journeys will now inter-work with service 10 providing through journeys to Sholing, Woolston and the City, these journeys will be numbered 9B and will not serve Hightown. There is also a revision to the Saturday morning timetable with a bus every 30 minutes before 9am.

Service 10/10A - Certain evening journeys have been extended to Harefield and Bitterne renumbered 10B as far as Thornhill then as a 9B to Harefield, Bitterne and back to City Centre via Northam.

Service 11A/11C/12A/12C/13 - As a result of a reduction of funding by Southampton City Council service 13 will be withdrawn. Some additional evening journeys on service 11A/12C will run until about 20:30. On Sundays an hourly daytime 11A/12C service will operate between 08:00 and 20:30. There is also a revision to the Saturday morning timetable with buses running up to every 20 minutes before 9am.

Service 14/14A - following Southampton City Council review of tendered bus services this route will no longer be operated by First but First season tickets will still be valid throughout the route provided by a new operator. The 14A morning journey has been withdrawn.

Service 16/16A - no change.

Service 17/17A - no change.

Service 21/21A - there are minor changes to the timetable.

Service 22 - currently operated by A2B on behalf of First following Southampton City Council tender review this service will be run by a new operator from 7th February. First season tickets will still be valid for travel on service 22. There are also major revisions to the route, the 22 will run between city centre and Shirley only no longer serving RSH Hospital, General Hospital, Lordswood, Lords Hill, Hillyfields or Nursling. Service 21 provides alternative travel arrangements for customers in the areas no longer served by the 22.

Service 24 - no change.

Bitterne Hoppa (B1/B2/B3) - no change.

Service 154 - Southampton City Council will continue to fund this school bus until the end of the school year in July 2010 however the service will be withdrawn from the end of July 2010.
